I know this book is intended for ages 9-12, but I bought it for my son's 3rd birthday. He LOVES it. I figure for now, he can learn very basic concepts ("these are the animals in a forest...") and as he grows, he will understand more and more of it.

Teacher approved! I know I will have to buy multiple copies for my 2nd/3rd grade reading group, because my teenage daughter won't even let me take it to school.. This is a big-picture overview of a dizzying array of topics that even adults will find fascinating, and the previews don't do it justice. $20 is a bargain for a book that will keep kids engaged for months! I know that some adults are a little uncomfortable with the 'explosion of information' format of books like this, but I can tell you that kids love it, and it is good practice for them to look at multiple sources of information and to learn to analyze text organization and page layout. Plus, this book is just amazingly cool. COOL! The kids are going to have to get it away from me...after I get it away from my kid...UPDATE: 1 year on: my class has three, and it's still in such demand that I am buying more copies!

I bought this book for my 20 month old baby. No, she is not precocious. She knows a few objects, animals, and can sort of (not really count).Most of the pages are useless for her. Maps of Anarctica, great novels, Sports, royalty... But other pages are perfect. They go way beyond her baby-books because they have a wide selection of each object. Like a whole page devoted to SNAKE! And another devoted to BUG! And another devoted to "MONKEYS!" And another devoted to "KITTTTTTTY!" And even the useless pages usually have a BALL on them somewhere (sports balls, globes, pie-charts?).It's an expensive book, but in terms of pictures/$$$, it beats any board-book on the market.Also chapter breaks and the cover have tons of random pictures-- and she likes looking for objects in those random assortments. Again it's not really useful that she knows Wooly Mammoth now? But who cares, it's fun.

I had a similar book as a child and loved it. My kids love this one just as much. I love that it is great for pre readers - the pictures tell you a lot without needing to read. Once they can read, it will be even better!

I bought this book for my 3 year old son who enjoys looking through large books (especially encyclopedias). There is so much useful information in this book that you could practically get a crash course in everything you need to know about the world and universe in one place. My husband and I enjoy reading it. Anyone from age two to a hundred years old can learn something from this book. I bought one for my 8 year old neice and I will buy more as gifts in the future. Great educational tool with a well thought out format. And only $20, wow. Good purchase!

This book has EVERYTHING! Butterflies, trains, food, rocks, planes. Almost anything you can think of this book has. My son is 9 and is in love with it. Buy this book! You wont be disappointed!

We had renewed this book so many times from the library I feared they were going to come looking for it. A gorgeously designed, thoughtful introduction to “everything” this book has captured my children’s interest and sparked more than one rabbit hole of learning that we have dived down. Each page is picture heavy without being short on meaningful facts and fun trivia. A great book to leave out and open to any random page or a handy reference like we used to support a geometry lesson and a gem stone identification.

This is a fantastic resource for my elementary school daughter. As having graduated as a science major in college, I try to surround her with all manner of learning devices, and this is one she can dip in and out of when the mood strikes her. Vividly portrayed, there is a wealth of information jammed into each page, yet not in so crowded a way as to be overwhelming. I'm sure this book will see many years of use, and I highly recommend it to parents of children whose reading skills are at about the second grade level and beyond.
